The calculator compares two years of cost for doing the task with people (a new hire or existing staff time) against automating the share you entered and keeping a person for the rest. Payback is how many months the monthly saving takes to cover the build cost.
It does not include benefits that are harder to price: faster response times, fewer errors, working outside office hours, or what your team does with the time it gets back. It also ignores the risk of a poorly scoped build. Use your own numbers; the defaults are only an example.
